Don’t Settle for the Blues! It’s Just as common as the flu!
It’s just one of those days again!
Today I woke up with difficulty from sleep. I didn’t feel like getting up at all! My body was heavy and tired. I felt no energy and motivation to get out of bed!
My breakfast
I started my day with the usual cup of coffee and cigarette, went to work unwillingly and counted the minutes and seconds till the day was done.
At work
My office desk was covered with papers just like my computer’s desktop was messed up with files and folders. I had so much unfinished work to do! But I didn’t feel like making any phone calls, replying emails or doing anything else. I just didn’t feel like talking to my colleagues or listening to them.
On the way back I was very sleepy and not interested to head anywhere. I just wanted to get back home and go to bed.
In the evening
When I reached home, it was 6 pm and I had nothing to do. No friends, no plans and no energy! I turned on the T.V and was excitedly watching the show “Funniest Animals in the World”; but it wasn’t funny to me at all!!
I was feeling confused, frustrated and excited. I went to the fridge and got some beer. While watching T.V, I finished 4 bottles of beer and 3 packs of nuts and chips. Later on, I went to bed and left every things there, and the T.V was still on…
Sleeping
“Tomorrow will be the same”; I thought how boring life is as I drifted off to sleep.
Most of the time I feel empty, tired, sleepy and have no energy. I do not enjoy anything I do. What I used to enjoy is boring now. I have no hope and no purpose in my life. I do not like mingling with people or my family. I just want to eat, sleep and drink.
How depression affects different aspects of our life
Sometimes depression is just right at the door and waiting for us to open the door and come in. In our computerised and modernised society, the percentage of people suffering from depression and suicidal inclination are dramatically increasing.
Sometimes, we live most of our lives with the blues and don’t even realise that we are depressed. It does not necessarily mean we suffer from major depression or clinical depression. It could be hidden chronic depression which undermines our physical and mental health.
depression might be the hidden cause behind someones’ weight control issues, dependency issues or addiction; you can be addicted to alcohol, drugs, eating, smoking or even addicted to work or relationships.
Causes of depression
Depression might be the result of past experiences, childhood experiences, life traumas or just due to a very routine and un-stimulating lifestyle. It could be also because of the climate, environment, diet, our body’s hormonal changes in different developmental stages or any other biological reasons.
Depression may be caused by many reasons and will destroy our presence of mind, creativity, and the potential for a happy and enjoyable life. It can impact our family, relationships and social activities.
Depression affects our physical & mental health, it will limit our potential for enjoying a happy life
